Overview
Cusco, the imperial city, is rich in history, tradition, and living culture. Being in this city fills you with energy, and its traditional San Pedro Market is the oldest, supplying food to the local population. One of the best ways to experience Cusco is by walking through its significant and representative places, admiring its architecture and cobblestone streets.
You’ll explore several iconic streets and landmarks, including San Francisco Square with its botanical garden, Regocijo Square, and Cusco’s Main Square, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with its temples and churches.
Upon your arrival in Cusco, you’ll also have the chance to prepare and taste Peru’s signature drink with our team.
Why You’ll Love This Trip:
Our tour begins with pick-up from your hotel at 3:00 p.m. We will walk to San Pedro Market, located 5 to 10 minutes away depending on your hotel’s location. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture both inside and around the market.
Inside San Pedro Market, you’ll find a wide variety of products, including fresh juices, cheese, pan chuta (large circular bread), coffee, coca leaves, and handicrafts like ponchos, chullos (Andean hats), and alpaca sweaters. Feel free to sample any of the delicious foods sold at the various stands.
We’ll continue to Santa Clara Arch, admired for its design and architecture, one of several arches surrounding Cusco. Next, we’ll visit San Francisco Square, home to a botanical garden showcasing the native Andean flora of the region.
Walking down Marqués Street, we’ll arrive at Cusco’s Main Square (Plaza de Armas), located at 3,399 m.a.s.l. (11,151 ft). Also known by its Quechua name Aucaypata (meaning “important place”), the square is surrounded by beautiful cobblestone streets, colonial arcades, and is a hub for tourists from around the world. It’s a popular spot for visitors to relax and enjoy the local restaurants.
We will continue along Avenida El Sol, Cusco’s main avenue, home to banks, ATMs, currency exchange offices, and access to various landmarks. Our walk concludes at the Temple of the Sun, Qoricancha, renowned for its remarkable Inca architecture. Though we’ll only visit the exterior, this temple remains one of Cusco’s top tourist attractions. Every June 24, the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) is celebrated on its esplanade.
Our final stop is near Qoricancha, where you’ll have the unique experience of preparing a delicious Pisco Sour. Our professional bartender will explain the ingredients and quantities, including pisco, lime, egg white, and more. After a brief demonstration, you’ll prepare your own drink under our team’s supervision—perfect practice for recreating it at home! We’ll wrap up around 6:00 p.m.
If you’d like, you can stay for dinner at the restaurant, which offers a menu of Peruvian flavors.
